Interactive Multimedia Installation

Artist’s Statement

The project has been developed under the guidance of Michael Bielicky and was displayed for the first time this February at the GASK in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic. The multimedia installation touch gives the opportunity to experience a human-to-human connection through a digital translation. Instead of seeing, reading, or hearing the connection, only the two people participating are able to feel the connection through a sensor.  The two sensors, each in the shape of a hand, are wirelessly connected but in separate locations. If both sensors are touched simultaneously, the hand sensors immediately begin to vibrate and heat up to body temperature causing the inference of a real physical touch through the wires and radio signals. The installation encourages participants to ask themselves, “What is the intrinsic quality of  this (digital) touch?”
